Audition Information
Here you’ll find everything you need to prepare for your audition, including detailed requirements, expectations, and important dates. Please read through the audition materials carefully to ensure you're fully prepared. In addition, if you are accepted into a drumline class, you will be required to review and sign a participation contract outlining your responsibilities and commitments for the season. We’re excited to see what you bring to the line—good luck!
Audition Materials
Snare Drum
Snare drum candidates will perform all material with a metronome to demonstrate control, timing, and consistency. You’ll be asked to play a variety of standard rudiments and basic drumline exercises. Focus on clarity of sound, stick control, and uniformity in your hands. Your Audition Etude can be found at the link provided—please learn it thoroughly and come prepared to perform confidently.
Quads (Tenors)
Quad players will audition with a metronome, performing rudiments and exercises across all drums to showcase your movement, control, and consistency. Focus on evenness between hands, clear tone on each drum, and smooth transitions during sweeps and around-the-drum patterns. The Audition Etude is linked for your preparation—come ready to perform it with confidence.
Bass Drum
Bass drum auditions will be conducted with a metronome to evaluate your timing and ability to play as part of a split line. You’ll demonstrate rudiments, unison exercises, and may be asked to play split parts depending on your experience. Clean technique, rhythmic accuracy, and solid pulse are key. The Audition Etude is available at the link—please be ready to play your assigned part if applicable.
Cymbals
Cymbal players will audition by clapping the rhythms of the exercises and etude, focusing on timing, rhythmic accuracy, and musical expression. If you feel comfortable, you're also welcome to perform the rhythms with sticks. You’ll be assessed on your ability to understand timing and ensemble awareness. The Audition Etude is linked—please learn the material thoroughly and be prepared to demonstrate it clearly.
